GABRIEL PLANS TRAIN TRIPS TO OVERCOME WRITER’S BLOCK

GABRIEL PLANS TRAIN TRIPS TO OVERCOME WRITER’S BLOCK

PETER GABRIEL

Rocker PETER GABRIEL has the perfect way to overcome writer’s block – he hops on a train.

The former GENESIS frontman discovered many years ago that lyrics and song ideas flow when he’s taking train journeys, so if he’s ever struggling to complete songs he goes travelling.

He says, "I have this theory that the brain is stimulated by peripheral motion."

Gabriel also has other little tricks when he needs to come up with song lyrics.

He adds, "I really have to leave home and go off to some bed and breakfast, an obscure place where I’m on my own – no washing to put in the machine or garden jobs."

No washing, eh? Well, thanks to Lia Eastwood, maybe we see why he escapes for lyricwriting… that washing machine is not cooperating. On the other hand though, it sure is nice to know he is writing LYRICS… that’s usually the last part before starting to record for him, isn’t it? heh!

A Brilliant Cause, and a Brilliant Day at Eden

Yesterday was a fantastic day – Africa Calling was broadcast by the BBC and I watched, transfixed, amazed, and inspired. My only frustrations if any were that Eden had TWO stages, with acts often performing simultaneously. I wanted to see everything! Fortunately, with Hamish Hamilton there (and Ian Reith, of course – both thanked by name by PG) there, I hope hope hope that a DVD will be available so I can see everything I missed. And what a beautiful place Eden is – now I have to make it back to England for another reason – someday!

There are some articles that focus mainly on Africa Calling, that I will just post the links to. There are plenty of articles online about the whole experience of Live 8, but these highlight the day at Eden.

Noteworthy news link to the Financial Times, where Peter is quoted thus:

“It’s about Africa, and if you’re not empowering the African music community, what are you doing?” Mr Gabriel said.

And this from Yahoo news:

This also from UK EFestivals…Thank you, Arlene!

I think more people watched Eden than some people may think…even though a lot more media attention went to Hyde Park and the other concerts. But this was a great day of music for a lot of us.

And BBC 4’s "PM" show interviewed Peter about the upcoming concert – http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/

The African groups are utilizing Real World for rehearsals for tomorrow – seems things are falling into place… can hardly wait!!
