Industry visionaries acquire the world’s leading console company

Oxford, England June 2005: Solid State Logic is pleased to announce that the company’s assets have been acquired by a joint venture established by musician and technologist, Peter Gabriel, and broadcast industry entrepreneur, David Engelke. The company, which will trade as Solid State Logic, will continue to design and manufacture mixing consoles and related audio technology at its Begbroke, Oxford headquarters.

Geldof announces more Live 8 concerts

Bob Geldof has announced that three more concerts will be added to the Live 8 event.

The Tokyo, Toronto and Johannesburg concerts are to be announced officially tomorrow, bringing the total number of Live 8 gigs to eight.

Earlier, Midge Ure and Peter Gabriel announced details of an African-only concert to be held at the Eden Project in Cornwall.

‘Africa Calling’ will take place on 2 July at the same time as the main event in Hyde Park. It will be hosted by Gabriel and Senegalese star Youssou N’Dour and will feature only African artists. The bill will include Maryam Mursal, Salif Keita and Thomas Mapfumo.

. . . Organisers of Africa Calling insisted the event had been planned before the row, but Gabriel, who is co-ordinating the concert with Midge Ure, confirmed he wanted to see more African acts at the London event.

The former Genesis singer, who has been a leading proponent of world music, said he had failed to persuade Bob Geldof, the organiser of Live8, of his case.

Speaking at a press conference in London, Gabriel said: "I do think it would be better to have a larger African presence in Hyde Park. Bob made the point that in places like China, if there’s an act that comes on TV that they don’t know, whether from Africa or Germany, they may well switch off. He wants to keep people watching. I don’t agree that’s the right criteria, but there it is."
