PG discusses I/O in Rolling Stone article

The new Rolling Stone online has an article with an interview with Peter about the new DVD and I/O:

Among the 150 tracks Gabriel has in various stages of gestation is a reworking of the 1986 B side "Curtains," which he decided to revisit after the song received thousands of votes on an online poll to determine his last tour’s set list. "I had pretty much forgotten about it," he explains. "So I pulled it out, found stuff I liked and did it again."

Some interesting statements in there about the process lately, and the possible tour to come.

A PG interview from the TimesOnline

This interview has a very cool quote, but read more here:

A visual man, who somehow found music as his medium, Gabriel insists that everybody is an artist, and that we can learn creativity like a language. “There is this reverence for talent, this perpetual search for star quality. I hate the term: it’s bullshit. Sure, some people have a facility to do things, but nobody need feel excluded. The other day, I was kicking a ball around in Sardinia (he has a house there) with a few locals, and Gianfranco Zola (the former Chelsea and Italy star) joined in. It was quite clear that he had a totally different level of ability, but it didn’t exclude the rest of us from getting pleasure.”

And this, which does explain a lot….

“I always liked Joseph Campbell’s ‘Follow your bliss’ idea — if people follow what makes them happy, they’ll often find the right way of making a living and being happy. I think it works for me,” he says, smiling. “I’ve been very lucky. I’ve never had to do a proper job in my life.”

Have fun! Thanks to StacieDee for the heads up on this! 🙂

Good News, Cranky News.

Here is some good news about Live 8 from Yahoo news:

The Live 8 series of 10 free concerts this past July were not meant to be fund-raisers, but they have generated a surplus of more than $12 million, Billboard has learned. The money will be put toward relief projects in Africa.

Here also is an overly cranky article about Peter Gabriel doing the World Cup opening ceremonies. Sounds like someone needs some warm milk and a cookie.

Despite Gabriel being FIFA’s choice to hook all the cool kids onto soccer, the ceremonies will still be worth watching.

Well, that’s the winner for backhanded compliment of the week. We now return you to your Gabrielated lives.

Solsburyhill.org: Time for Ten

Hi! Site Administrator here, speaking.

I just realized that 10 years ago, on Oct. 10 the Hill went On The Air for the first time.

For some reason, I’ve always imagined that if the site made it to 10 years, I’d make a big deal out of it, and here I’ve completely forgotten about it.

Um, Happy Birthday to the Hill? Happy Anniversary, my fellow Solsburians?

Eh, milestones are overrated. But I just had to say thanks to everyone who made the Hill last this long.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Gabrielfully yours,

Mac Cat, Director of Coffee & Legendary Solsburian
