Levin fondly recalls session with Lennon

By John W. Barry
Poughkeepsie Journal

Nice article in the Poughkeepsie Journal, with a great group shot of the musicians. Some of what is in the article was covered by Tony in his book Beyond the Bass Clef, but it’s always nice to see him in the news.

Regarding how he looks back on his work with Lennon, Levin said, "I admired and appreciated his work, was something of a little bit of a fan. I treated it like, not just another session, a really good session with a really great musician whose work I know."

World Cup promises unique gala

By Philip Blenkinsop

BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany stages the World Cup’s first opening gala next year and organisers promise it will be nothing like the extravaganzas seen at the Olympics and the Superbowl.

The gala’s artistic director, Austrian Andre Heller, unveiled his creative team including Brian Eno and Peter Gabriel on Wednesday.

………….

Music director Gabriel, once of Genesis, promised to "make some noise". Asked why he had signed up, he joked: "It’s the same attraction for a musician as for a footballer — money, sex and drugs."

In characteristic fashion, Peter Gabriel is always looking for the deeper meanings of an experience.

And for some interesting news, check this out… I’m not saying, I’m just saying.

DVD Review from Blogspot – Peter Gabriel, the Shaman

Fascinating review from Blogspot for SGU Live and Unwrapped focuses on PG now, without prior revelations. The reviewer has never seen Peter live, and had not been a fan at all for years.

Peter Gabriel songs in concert are an experience. They are more than just a band getting up on stage and running through a collection of their hits. Obviously the disc is not able to recreate the atmosphere of being at a live concert, there’s almost no way in which to be able to do that. What they have done instead is equally as effective.

Review of the new DVD in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Review of the Still Growing Up Live and Unwrapped DVD here in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has this amusing quote (even though I wouldn’t go so far as ‘oversized’:

If he were fronting the Rolling Stones, he’d be in trouble with this new oversized Obi Wan Kenobi look. But he’s not and the good news is that his voice is still one of the most compelling instruments you’ll hear.

And this one….

This 2004 "Still Growing Up" tour, which skipped Pittsburgh, scaled back the theatrics a bit to highlight an ensemble that includes the incomparable Tony Levin, edgy guitarist David Rhodes and monster drummer Ged Lynch. It also introduces Melanie Gabriel, his daughter, doing a beautiful job in the backup singer role once occupied by Paula Cole.

Take a look at the whole review and enjoy!
